An arrangement of noises, so they say, that are pop-ish, rock-ish and jazz-ish. It comes from a group based in Louisville, KY going by the name of Small Time Napoleon. Bringing a twist of swing and class to a modern pop hum delivers something that feels like a welcomed collision between old and new.
It’s a chilled and charismatic sound that all comes together on the band’s album Cloud Machine. A suave little number rolls in with Boring Little Play, while Sucker For A Tomboy is full of charm and wit before attempting a bilingual effort in Airship.
Sewn to the Wall stands out with its vividly rich lyrics, as does the aura of a little debauchery in Rorschach Test. The crafty wordsmithing, debonair sounds and classy arrangements with brashness and romance thrown in for good measure makes these noise arrangements worth hearing.
