Nepotism combines alternative rock and hip hop influences with a focus on innovative and experimental sounds. Based in Colombia, South Carolina the five piece outfit create sounds that are on occasion likened to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine and Tool.
Having shared their debut EP Black Sheep early in the year, Nepotism released Animals // The Howl as a single a few months back.
There’s a surprisingly complacent sounding vocal than what may have been anticipated from the dark, sombre sound at the outset. But listening more closely uncovers something tinged with hurt and indignation together with an ever building arrangement, a touch of hip hop influences and some prominent guitar making for a worthy listen or two.
Comparatively, New American Drugs reveals the diversity of sounds from Nepotism, with a stronger hip hop influence filtering through and more curiousity to what the rest of the EP has to offer.
The influences are intertwined throughout the sounds delivered by Nepotism, but the raw and organic feel that the band aspires to is still present, offering an unpretentious, broad-minded approach to their creative endeavours.
