This isn’t the usual one new track, or one new artist. Instead it’s four tracks from four artists courtesy of Falmouth University’s The Hitmachine EP compilation through Pigfarm Recordings.
Ashley Height, a guitarist and singer/songwriter is the first to be heard with Emotional Space, a collaboration with Electro producer Hugo Ellingham aka Après. Smoother grooves make way for a funkier sound during the choruses overlaid on synths for a cruisy electro pop feel.
Terracotta brings Over to the table, not as scary as the band name may suggest or implied by the tempered count in at the outset. Instead, a hook filled alt/indie rock number from a bunch of lads that don’t seem to mind taking the mickey, judging from the clip for this track.
Kerensa offers something of the more ethereal, spacey variety with Desist, a far more chilled out and mellow sound compared to the EP’s other offerings. In this context, perhaps worthy of a few listens to make something of it.
But if that wasn’t enough, the warm vocal tones and sparse accompaniment in Fall to your Knees wraps things up and brings the newness total to four tracks even.
